★         UNDATED FILE, INITAL SEQUENCE.the room is always the same temperature. never cold, never hot, always right in the middle... a little too temperate, almost as if there was nothing. ren didn't like it, nor did they like the extremely bright flurescent lights that often emitted a high pitched noise that made his teeth feel... funny.ren sits at a metal table with his hands folded on top, still and stiff as ever. he has learned over time that being still has rewarded him, as well as staying safe."unit 0323, please confirm your awake state," came a male voice from behind the steel door.at first, ren didn't register it, but then it hits him and he blinks sluggishly, his mouth opening on instinct."awake," ren says, the word coming out smooth, though a little hoarse.almost immediately came a second voice, a female. "good, very good. good morning, ren. we will have you watch something today you may like."just as she finished, a tv in the center of the room turned on.the image on the tv soon flickers on and a coherent image is on screen, that of a smiling news anchor with a neat banner and words in white font scrolling across the bottom of the screen.ren's eyes are hooked to the screen, his ears perked up.the anchor is going through the usual pleasantries, now mentioning for viewers to stay calm during weather conditions that are going to be severely abnormal for the week. this is nothing new, ren has heard the same words over and over from multiple recordings, from five different angles, and three different sources. boredom would be expected after seeing the same thing more than once, however, ren seems to be entirely hooked.there's more than what meets the eye, and ren can sense it. he can sense the underlying panic in the anchor's voice. he can hear the static of the tape whirring in the vcr device. he can look in the anchor's eyes and see emotion written all over it."unit 0323, describe the subject's tone for us," says the man's voice, who is now behind a glass that is stationed behind the television, giving a full view of ren at a table.ren's ears seem to twitch, his tongue darting out to wet his lips.
